Alawna Burrell Founder

Alawna is a Licensed and Board Certified Behavior Analyst residing in the Jackson Metropolitan Area. She currently works as a BCBA for a local company providing treatment to children ages 1-5 in a daycare setting. She previously worked as a Traveling BCBA, providing mainly remote supervision and parent coaching to families in the greater Atlanta metro-area. Prior to founding Garden of Genius ABA, she worked as the Director of Research and Training at Autism Response Team Texas in Frisco, TX. She has held many leadership positions across her 8 years of experience in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis.

Alawna holds a B.S. degree in Psychology from Jackson State University and a Masters degree in Child & Adolescent Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Alawna began her journey in ABA at Canopy Children’s Solutions (formerly known as Mississippi Children’s Home Services) in 2014.

From there, she ventured out to further her skillset in the great state of Texas where she became certified as an RBT in 2015 and then a BCBA in 2019. Alawna has worked in a variety of settings, including clinics, homes, communities, and schools. She has acquired a variety of experience and skills inclusive of but not limited to: cultural responsiveness, Natural Environment Teaching (NET), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), parent coaching/training, Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention (EIBI), verbal behavior, augmentative communication (e.g., AAC, ASL), social skills groups, Relational Frame Theory, school readiness, educational advocacy, and collaborative care. Alawna is Level 1 PEAK certified and has completed Dr. Greg Hanley’s Practical Functional Assessment and Skill-Based Treatment training.

Alawna is also a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) and a major advocate for health and wellness. Her greatest interest is to integrate wellness practices with the science of behavior analysis in order to improve the quality of care each family receives. Among Alawna’s other interests within the field are Organizational Behavior Management (OBM), cultural responsiveness, research, teaching, and training. Her future plans include publishing a research article, teaching at a university, and ushering in diverse, new talent to the field of ABA!
